Creating a new and beautiful potager

potagerWe have had a potager for a few years, although we did not use it last year. Because of not using it, it has fallen into disrepair or in other words needs replacing.

A potager is a framed vegetable bed. Ours is only small at 1.2 x 1.2 metres. This gives us 16 planting squares to have our different plants in. Very similar to the one illustrated.

Unfortunately our new one doesn’t quite look like that as it’s still in the packaged waiting to be built. (see photo below)

Why have a Potager

The glory of gardening: hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature. To nurture a garden is to feed not just on the body, but the soul. Alfred Austin
  • Growing your own veg is cheaper than buying it from the supermarket.
  • Even if it is only tomatoes and lettuce for the summer it means fresh salad when you want.
  • It is very therapeutic tending the beds
  • There’s a sense of achievement when you pick your own produce
  • It makes you keep an eye on your garden. We have a big garden and the potager is “round the back” so an area easily forgotten about.

Here’s my thoughts on our potager

What are we looking to grow in our potager

Tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, cucumber, courgette and maybe some herbs as well. Obviously, the list is not long as we only have a little potager and there is only two of us. We are not doing this to make money so aren’t becoming market gardeners! ,The aim is to save us a little expense. It is also lovely to go out and pick your salad for lunch during the summer. Here we have the seeds planted in their seed trays

As we are growing things to go in salads we are also keeping in line with our detox plan to eat more healthily. You can read more about our healthy eating and detox here.

So Creating A New, Beautiful And Courageous Existence doesn’t necessarily mean doing something new. It can be reconnecting with something that you found enjoyable and rewarding that you have let slip.

Practice Makes Perfect

It’s all well and good writing about things in theory: however, we need to start applying what we learn. You don’t have to go out to the garden center unless you feel the need. Instead look at things you used to do and see if you may want to revisit them as a way to enjoy life a little more.
