Flora the Canbace Flamingo of Fun

FloraHi everyone, my name is Flora.

I was a birthday present for mama (Nicci) that her dear friend Sharon sent back in November. Sharon says she saw me and thought immediately of mama. Must be the hair!

Anyway, when I arrived at the Fletcher household, they were struggling a bit. It had been a tough couple of months. Life was all work and no play: which makes mama a dull mama regardless of the colour of her hair.

Both mama and papa had been attempting to reconnect with the fun side of their lives. In fact, mama has written a couple of blogs about the importance of laughter. You can read “Existence is easier with laughter in your life” here. The second blog, “The healing power of laughter” is here.

To be honest they have been good and often watch comedy and satirical programs in the evenings. “Have I Got News For You” is a firm favourite. However, this is external stimulus that makes them laugh and not things they do to have fun themselves. There is a difference and having fun is still seriously lacking at the moment.

“Never, ever under estimate the importance of having fun.” Randy Pausch

I couldn’t agree more. This is where I come in. My New Year’s Resolution is to ensure that mama and papa DO things that make them laugh.

I made a start last week when I complained about the state of mama’s hair. Her shocking pink flamingo locks were looking decidedly moth-eaten. The outside reflection of the state of her inner phoenix perhaps. You can read about mama’s snuffling phoenix here.

So, I showed mama that her pink was limp rather than shocking. I rootled around the back of the cupboard in the bathroom and found the box of hair dye. Having convinced mama that there was no time like the present I kept a beady eye on her to make sure that she’d applied it properly.

Next, I flew up to the clock in the office, so I could tell mama when it was time to rinse. Of course, I used Flamingo Time as there is nothing more accurate!

The results speak for themselves. Much brighter and more flamingo-like than they have been for ages. Mama won’t be such an embarrassment when she takes me out in the future. I’ve already been to Monsegur market which was lovely. There are more trips planned for the coming weeks. I’ll be sharing photos over on the Canbace Life Instagram account. I don’t have my own account: however, mama and papa have said I can post updates on their account. If you’d like to “Follow Flora” click the link to the account here.

As for future blogs, I will be writing some more as I help mama and papa whilst they are Creating A New, Beautiful And Courageous Existence. I’m not sure how frequently as it takes quite a long time to tap out the words with my beak! Luckily, or unluckily depending on how you look at it, mama and papa need to be monitored careful this year. They’re got so many plans for Canbace Life that they are probably going to struggle with their work/life balance. Which means I’m going to have my work cut out maintaining their fun-levels. So, I’m sure I will have plenty to write about.

Last minute update ….

I have a sister!

Mama and papa finally went to the bottom of the drive to the post box for the first time in over two weeks. Waiting in there was a parcel from the lovely Jessica Jones of Infertility & Life. In it was Fifi, a little flamingo chick. Mama will introduce you all to her later. Fifi needs a bit of time to recover from being sent through the post. Her feathers are all a bit crumpled at the moment.

If you want to visit Jess’s blog please click here. Please note there are Trigger warning on some of her most recent blogs because Jess’ last cycle of IVF was successful. In fact “Shrimpie” Jones arrived on Monday. The blogs referring to cycles one to four are incredibly informative for anyone who is currently going through IVF treatment.

A message from mama …

Practice makes perfect

It’s all well and good writing about things in theory: however, we need to start applying what we learn. Do you feel that you’ve lost some of you sparkle? Has your zest for life and having fun disappeared down the rabbit hole? If this sounds familiar, then why not find your equivalent of Flora to help you re-engage with your “silly side”.

To help you keep track of all your work for the daily activities mentioned we have created a monthly diary for you to record your progress. To download your copy of “My January Canbace Diary” please click here.

Be kind to yourself …

In CANBACE friendship!

If anything I have written resonates I’d love to hear from you in the comments. I appreciate that this can be a difficult subject to speak openly about. If you don’t want me to publish your comment on the website, please let me know. I will keep your words private.
