WhatNotToSay#9 looks at Mother’s Day triggers

WhatNotTosay#9WhatNotToSay#9 looks Mother’s Day (MD) which can be full of triggers.

OH NO I hear you groan. It’s that time of year again.

Which is such a shame because it is a day of celebration. Unfortunately, MD isn’t limited to only one day. If it were, we might not find it so trigger.

This isn’t simply because MD celebrated on different days around the world. For several weeks prior to each MD we are subjected to a deluge of potentially triggering emails and images. Even if you don’t live in the country that is about to celebrate their MD.

We live in a global society.

This means our email inboxes and newsfeeds are targeted three of four times a year. May is particularly bad as it is celebrated two or three times in quick succession.

Personally, I don’t want MD to be banned. I also don’t want mothers to feel they can’t share information about their MD gifts etc.

I simply wish that our global society could work together so there was ONE MD per year. They’ve managed to do that with the other days associated with parental status. So why not MD too!

There are other improvements that could be made as well. However, this would be a huge step forward.

Practice makes perfect

It’s all well and good writing about things in theory: however, we need to start applying what we learn. If you are feeling strong enough, I would like you to plan your “ideal world” response to this type of comment. Give it a go even though no one has ever made this comment to you. There is always a first time, and it’s better to be prepared.

Due to the imminent arrival of MD’s season I’d also like to you plan what you need to do to protect yourself. This could be thinking about places (both real-world and virtual) that you may need to avoid as well as planning some TLC to help you through the day(s).

Be kind to yourself …

In CANBACE friendship!
