The benefits of eliminating rushing for one day

rushingLiving in 2019 tends to mean rushing around. We live our lives at high speed never having enough time for anything. It feels as if we are always on the go without achieving anything. Not great for our health

So, trying not to rush is a good thing. There is the saying “more haste and less speed” which seems to be a contradiction. Until you remove the “and”. Then it makes sense: the more rushing we do the slower we become. Tasks may get completed yet have they be done well. Have we got the “quick fix” yet wasted time in the long run because we need to go back and correct mistakes?

“Everywhere, people are discovering that doing things more slowly often means
doing them better and enjoying them more. It means living life instead of rushing
through it. You can apply this to everything from food to work.”

Andrew Time

Having been in the army you are taught to always turn up or be ready five minutes before whatever you are going to do. I still keep my watch five minutes fast so that I’m on time for things.

If giving yourself the time, which means less rushing, results in less being done, then so be it. You will be less stressed. Your body will benefit from this and so will your “to do list.” Ultimately you may become better at doing the things you do.

I recorded some of my experiences of rushing or not and the differences they brought about.

Prioritisation prevents rushing

rushingUse prioritisation to decide what you can leave out to help avoid rushing. Nicci will be doing a blog on MoSCoW, which is a brilliantly simple prioritisation technique. It is a way to distil what is important within given time constraints. It is a very useful tool and when Nicci has done her blog about it then we’ll update this blog with a link.

So, try to prioritise your day to avoid rushing this can be done by giving yourself more time to complete things or reducing the number of things you “need” to do. Doing this will make for a less stressful life and allow you to enjoy the nicer things rather than still being hyper from rushing around all day.

Practice makes perfect

It’s all well and good writing about things in theory: however, we need to start applying what we learn. Try to plan a day when you will eliminate rushing. It will help you destress and give you quality time.
