The pampering side of Rugby Union

“Rugby is a game for barbarians played by gentlemen. Football is a game
for gentlemen played by barbarians.”
Oscar Wilde

Nicci and I are into some serious pampering over the coming weeks. All in the name of Rugby.

The Six Nations ruby tournament really is a time of pampering for us as we love rugby union. For those who don’t know about rugby it was first played at Rugby School in England and developed into the sport of rugby union that we know today. There have been a number of spin offs including Rugby League and American Football. The rugby school history can be read here.

Whilst we Create A New, Beautiful And Courageous Existence we need to pamper ourselves. For us sitting down to watch the Six Nations is pampering as we plan our lives around it. Pampering is all about doing something you enjoy.

Other thoughts on rugby

I enjoy rugby so much that I thought it would share some my memories on video. After all, Nicci always tells me one of the ways to overcome video nerves is to talk about something you are passionate about. So here we go.

Being present at the matches would be even better, but not necessarily as relaxing. In the past I have been to Twickenham, The Millennium Stadium and the Stadt de France to watch games during the tournament. I have also been to Cardiff Arms Park which was rotated through 90 degrees when rebuilt as the Millennium Stadium. This may be sacrilege to say but in some ways the TV coverage is better than watching from the stands.

Rugby is a game for big buggers. If you’re not a big bugger, you get hurt.
 I wasn’t a big bugger, but I was a fast bugger and
therefore I avoided the big buggers.”
Spike Milligan

It’s not just Rugby

Although this is about Rugby, I know quite a few people who don’t do anything over the Wimbledon fortnight. In fact Nicci’s mother used to set up her typewriter and a television in the garden, so she could watch the tennis whilst typing an auction catalogue. So we are not alone in our sport fix pampering.

Luckily for us we have the Rugby World Cup this year as well, so we get a double fix. Or should that be a mega fix.

rugbyWhen we’ve had enough of grown men chasing an old shaped ball around a field we also have the Formula One season to look forward to. At some point I would love to be able to follow the sport around the world. Nicci has promised me that we can add the Six Nations, the Rugby World Cup and F1 to the bucket list. However, at the moment these are more of a pipedream. But that’s a bucket list pipe dream at the moment.

Practice makes perfect

It’s all well and good writing about things in theory: however, we need to start applying what we learn. If you enjoy a sport do you plan your life around the major occasions associated with it. You may find that working out how to it your sport watching into your life maybe just the pampering you need. …..
